about

These four tracks were all made over the course of a few days in February 2020. ...Though that's a bit disingenuous, since their source material is over 20 years old. I had the idea to take MIDI files of some of my older, normal-length, long-finished pieces, stretch all the note events out to many times their original length, and replace all the original sound/instrument patches with completely different ones in Reason. Of course this changes almost everything about the piece; what were once single lines or simple sounds became complex, evolving sounds, lines that were sustained suddenly become arpeggiated, formerly musical lines get replaced with purely electronic or sound-effect type patches... The challenge was to make it all hang together in just as convincing a way as they did back when I created the first versions of each. The process seemed to turn each new version into a kind of evocative "soundtrack". For what film or action, I'll leave it up to each listener's mind to come up with. They're definitely pieces that demand you get lost, give yourself up to the flow.
