about

Roses Sabra (Sabra Letic) was born and grew up in Bosnia. In the 1990s she left for Germany and has lived there since. From an early age she has had a passion for acting and singing. Though not a "professional", Sabra has found an outlet through the sound-sharing website Freesound.org (freesound.org/people/Roses1401/). There, over the years she has recorded all kinds of free-form monologues, vocalizations, and other snippets of voice, that anyone else is free to use in their own new creations.

In April 2018, paging through the Freesound website and looking for some new inspiration, I came across Sabra's tracks and was immediately struck by their unusual voice, unusual content, and unusual honesty. I set to work to gather a few of the tracks together into a piece, leaving them unedited as far as content and length, processing the voice in both simple and complex ways, and introducing just a bare minimum of a musical background. Sabra's long monologues define the length or "boundaries" of each piece, while other shorter recordings become words or vocalises that float in and out, or dot the sonic landscape. Each ends up telling a story, or maybe they are facets of the same story? -- "We are such stuff as dreams are made on, and our little life is rounded with a sleep."
